The new leadership at the state Department of Natural Resources should make sure that a program that’s just gotten off the ground not only stays alive but grows in 2011. Done right, it should help local governments work with each other and the state to reduce costs and pollution. Those are both worthy goals.
The program expands the state’s Green Tier program to municipalities. What’s happened is that five communities have signed on to the Legacy Communities Green Tier Charter, a sustainability program in which communities pledge to go beyond regulatory environmental compliance.
