Executive Director Steve Hiniker to Step Down
Eleven years ago I started an amazing journey with 1000 Friends of Wisconsin. I was fortunate to be selected as our group’s third Executive Director in October of 2004. Together we accomplished a lot: Green Tier Legacy Communities, keeping Smart Growth as the law in Wisconsin, establishing a terrific green infrastructure program in southeast Wisconsin, establishing a Great Neighborhoods program and a successful campaign to expose highway waste to cite a few examples.
Now, after more than a decade as the leader of 1000 Friends of Wisconsin, I am stepping down from my position as Executive Director. I will continue to be an active volunteer in all of the efforts that we have been engaged in over the past decade. I will also continue to be a major supporter of 1000 Friends of Wisconsin.
We are now beginning the recruitment process for our next Executive Director, someone who will bring the organization to new heights. Next year we will be celebrating our 20th anniversary which seems an appropriate time to bring in new leadership for the next 20 years.
I am eager to help that new leader take over this tremendous organization. I am committed to making the transition smooth and have pledged to take whatever time is necessary to make that happen.
I want to thank all of our members, our board and our funders who have made all of this progress possible. You have been generous with your support – you should be very proud of what we have accomplished together.
Let’s make even greater progress in the next 20 years for a better Wisconsin.
Sincerely,
Steve Hiniker
