Green Tier Legacy Community Programs Moves Ahead

Townhomes in Fitchburg – a Green Tier Legacy Community

Thanks to Appleton, Bayfield, Fitchburg, Middleton and Weston for officially signing as the first community participants in Wisconsin’s Green Tier Legacy Community program. The program started as a project of 1000 Friends of Wisconsin and has now grown into a partnership between the five communities, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, the Wisconsin League of Municipalities, the Center on Wisconsin Strategy (COWS), the Wisconsin Energy Conservation Corporation and 1000 Friends of Wisconsin.

The Legacy Communities will be developing and implementing strategies to reduce energy consumption and to develop their communities in ways that make them more pedestrian friendly.  Resource experts from the DNR, COWS, WECC and 1000 Friends are available for consultation.

The Green Tier Legacy Communities will be getting together early in the new year to plan how to implement the charter, develop metrics to demonstrate successful strategies and to share new ideas with each other.
