The Glacial Heritage Area Plan covers most of Jefferson County and the adjacent townships in Dodge, Dane and Rock Counties. It stems from the DNR’s Land Legacy Report on the protection for important conservation areas in the most populated areas of the state. The plans calls for expanding conservation parks and linking off-road bicycle, pedestrian, equestrian and paddling trails to communities. The plan seeks to provide more opportunities for outdoor recreation for healthy living as well as environmental benefits.
The locally driven project resulted in a new approach for the DNR including partners in planning such as local officials as well as conservation and recreation organizations, interested individuals and local businesses.
The plan seeks to keep Jefferson County as a beautiful area with a healthy and diverse economic base that will continue to prosper in the decades to come.
