Regional transit authority measure faces strong opposition at Capitol

Madison – Milwaukee-area taxpayers could wind up paying a second time for buses that already have been purchased with their tax dollars – a price tag that could come to some $20 million – under new regional transit authority legislation unveiled Wednesday.

But the measure’s Democratic authors face powerful opposition within their own party to their latest attempt to authorize a transit sales tax that could pump new funding into southeastern Wisconsin’s financially troubled bus systems.
