Jim Matson

Jim Matson was an attorney for the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) for 36 years and was the chief counsel for 28 years. He was responsible for regulatory policy development, including laws and rules on a wide range of topics including food, environment, disease control and consumer protection. While with the DATCP, Jim designed and drafted the current working lands law. Currently, Jim serves on the policy committee of the Madison Clean Lakes Alliance. To his knowledge, he was the first person at DATCP who rode to work on a bicycle (starting in the 1970’s). Jim still loves to bike, both commuting and long distance tours, and has lived in downtown Madison for most of his adult life. Madison, WI
