The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is trying to Re-imagine Highway 175.
The public had an opportunity to share their thoughts on changes to the highway Monday night, Oct. 2. WisDOT is doing a two-year study on the stretch of highway. On Monday, they offered walking tours of the Wisconsin 175 Corridor and people shared opinions about its future.
1000 Friends Transportation Policy Analyst Carl Glasemyer was there to share our recommendations and was featured on Fox 6 Milwaukee news.
Our recommendation to replace the Stadium Freeway spur Wis-175 with an at-grade community-oriented roadway was included in the Fix at Six report. We are working to ensure multimodal transportation is at the center of this study.
Revisioning the corridor presents an opportunity to connect parks and trails into a cohesive system that includes the future 30th St Corridor Trail.
Currently this highway has no transit service, but is positioned to connect Milwaukee’s north side to regional commercial and employment within West Milwaukee.
Finally, removing the freeway opens up land that can be integrated into parks and used for new transit-oriented development.
