Rethink 794 is going national

Rethink 794 is going national after the campaign had the distinct honor of being featured in Fast Company this past week.

With public meetings expected to start in the coming months, 1000 Friends is doing it’s best to keep the noise up about the highway-to-boulevard project that is its leading.

The article “There’s not a neighborhood that got improved when a freeway went through it’: Inside Milwaukee’s push to tear down a highway” talked with Peter Park, Milwaukee’s former planning director and a longtime proponent of tearing down I-794.

“It’s the difference between spending public money on things that cost more to maintain in the future and realizing that those things are not necessary anymore,” said Park. “We need to think about the long-term benefits rather than the short-term inconvenience of traffic congestion.”
